why donate?
GSAF’s goal is to ensure that California Girls State remains an outstanding and coveted educational opportunity for the young women of California through providing funding directly to California Girls State, a program operated under the ALA, a 501(c)(19) Veterans’ Organization.
In 2013, a full day was cut from California Girls State in order to meet a shortfall in the funds raised. In the short-term, GSAF is working to raise the $40,000 necessary to #cagsGetOurDayBack. In the long-term, GSAF is working with the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) to create an endowment fund for California Girls State, as well as seeking larger grants and corporate sponsorships to ensure that California Girls State is restored, maintained, and enhanced.
GSAF epitomizes the ALA’s mission to promote responsible citizenship through our enduring commitment to develop young women as future leaders. Since its inception, California Girls State has empowered over thirty thousand accomplished young women to reach greater heights through the leadership skills and self-confidence fostered by the Girls State experience. For many delegates, Girls State is the first opportunity they have had to interact with and learn from similarly high caliber young women of different cultural or socioeconomic backgrounds.

If you are interested in publicizing GSAF's July fundraiser through existing events, or to local businesses, here are some documents you can use to spread the word. There is a brochure (previewed to the left and available for download just below). There are also letters representing various groups (ALA, alumnae, counselor, parents, , so please select which is most applicable to you. Lastly, there is a template for business cards, so you can direct potential donors to our website for more information.
